Local gal kills Monster Buck.

This is Steph's buck after the broken antlers were repaired...

Stephanie Durfee, a good friend of ours drew the Utah Sportsman Deer tag for 2008-2009. They invitied us to spend some time down on the Henry Mountains helping them look for the buck of a lifetime. We got to see some monster deer and enjoyed the weekends that we spent down there with the Durfee's. Dustin, is a 2nd or 3rd cousin, I think, and is our veterinarian for our dogs. I am very proud of the way they passed lots of big bucks, knowing that they had the opportunity of a lifetime in their grasp, and held out until they found a buck worthy of the permit. Congratulations to Steph and Dustin for taking a magnificent buck.

The deer was broke up but still scored 230 inches. They had a local taxidermist repair the broken antlers with help from some photos and videos of the buck.
After the repairs, the buck scores over 255 inches..... Monster Buck..and largest taken in Utah this year.

Local Bull Elk is the New WORLD RECORD!

The Spider Bull is a local bull that was found on the Monroe Mountain. The bull grossed within 5/8 inch of scoring 500 inches. No elk has ever scored near 500 inches. The bull was guided by Mossback Outfitters. Jace spent a lot of days up searching for this bull, but was not there when they finally found and harvested him.

This will put Monroe Mountain on the map as this record will probably hold up for a long, long time. The previous world record was an elk found dead in frozen in Upper Arrow Lake in British Columbia in 1994, and was submitted to the B&C by the ministry of British Columbia.

The Spider bull beats the old record by over 13 inches.

LOST AN OLD FRIEND TODAY!!!!!

Today I had to say goodbye to an old friend.
I had became really attached to him and had both good times and bad with him.
We shared a lot of memoriable experiences. I took him ice fishing a few times,
took him out feeding turkeys, and for a couple rides up in the mountains.
We spent New Years together, and many weekends just hanging out.
Just last week we went to the Hunting Expo in Salt Lake and attended the Alan Jackson concert. I don't think he enjoyed the concert but he still stayed with me until it was over. In a way, I was glad to see him go. He had a hard personality, and was always green with ???? something. He was very annoying and pretty rough to be around. He had even started to stink a little the last couple of weeks. He did keep me in line though and I appreciated that.
So today I paid my last respects to him and left him at the hospital, dead to the world. The last I seen, my old green CAST was headed for the garbage...
And on the other hand, GOOD RIDENCE!!!!

Ten Reasons I love my cast..

1. I don't have to do the dishes......(but I have done them)
2. I don't have to do laundry.........(but I have)
3. I don't have to go shopping........(and I don't)
4. I have 4 legs ........ but only can use 3 of them
5. I don't have to worry about blowing away in the wind.. too heavy of a cast
6. I've grown attached to it....or it is attached to me.
7. It is so comfortable.....................NOT...........
8. I save a lot of money not going out and enjoying the weekends> (and I hate it)
9. I love having people do everything for me!!! (hate it, hate it, hate it)
10. Guess all these reasons show I REALLY HATE THIS CAST!!!

Hadi loves elk meat for dinner!

I got a phone call from Hadi this afternoon and she told me "I ate elk". I asked her if it was "yucky" and she says "no grandpa, it was yummy"!
Back on the night we were cutting the elk up, we talked to her and when we told her we were cutting it up so she could eat it, she got really disgusted and told us, "no, Yucky", "elk would be Yucky"... Well it sounds like she has changed her mind...That is good because we are still hoping to find grandma Bev another elk to shoot so everyone will have an elk this year!!

Grandma Bev does a Smackdown on a "Big Stinky"

Mom got her big bull last night on the Fishlake. She really dedicated herself to getting this bull. She hiked further one way than she has walked in the last 5 years. And then had to walk back...

She made 4 outstanding shots at 390 yards, down to 350. The bull is an 8x9 and scores an amazing 377 inches. Like Kamie's bull, it will probably be one of the largest bulls to come off of the Fishlake again!!! As one outfitter we talked to said "you Farnsworth's don't miss a beat, and you know how to get it done". He was there the night Kamie shot hers.
Congrats Mom!.. You deserved it and you earned it....

Fishlake Elk Hunting..

Well, this weekend is the big day to start hunting big stinky bulls...
Bev's elk hunt starts Saturday and we are excited to get up there and find her the bull she has been dreaming of..and apparently she dreams big!!!
I have been helping Spence Packer with his Fishlake Archery Elk Hunt. He is the son of the apostle Boyd K Packer. We spent last weekend with him and his 3 boys. They are a great family and we had a lot of fun visiting with them and telling stories. They are really super people and we are glad to have got to make friends with them.
He has had a ball chasing Jace around, but as of yet, he hasn't killed a bull. He has come close, but just can't close the deal. This week should be a fun week for him with the bulls starting to bugle and chase cows...wish I could be up there with him, but I need to spend the time with Bev..
Anyhow, hopefully we will have photos of Bev's "BIG STINKY BULL" in the next week or so..

Jace does it again!!!

Jace and huge bulls...
These two things seem to go together a lot lately.
Jace just returned from guiding Pat Gilligan, who purchased a CWMU permit.
Jace found and got Pat into a nice 7X8 bull, scoring 401 B&C inches...
It was simply a monster!!!

Congrats Jace! and keep up the good work!

No pics available yet..

Some People have all the LUCK!

Grandpa Dotson recieved a call from the Utah DWR today, and they told him that he was being offered one of the 12 additional bison hunting permits on the Henry Mountains this fall. His name was one of the next 12 on the drawing list from this year's Big Game Drawings.
So, to make a long story short, we now have a very excited Grandpa, and a fun buffalo hunt coming up in November!!!!!!
And to think it was just 3 weeks ago, he caught that monster 38 lb lake trout!!!
Wonder where the luck will surface next? Vegas?????

Congratualtions to Grandpa!! And everyone get ready to come and enjoy a great hunt!
What a year we are having.... Jace catches a huge 6 lb Brookie on the Boulder, Grandpa catches a monster lake trout, Grandma Bev will be shooting a big stinky bull elk on the Fishlake, Chet, Bev, and I will be hunting antlerless elk, Grandma Bev will get to hunt early for a big buck, and then Grandpa Dotson will get to live his dream of hunting a huge buffalo!

At least we know the guy with the luck! So that makes us lucky too....

This is how we create our Monster!!!

Here is Tryen all hooked up and ready to receive his Frankenstein treatment. This is how we create our little monsters!!!!!
